Phil Kim - June 2026

June 2026 Contribution

Throughout Phil's career, his leadership has focused on advancing STEM education, improving instructional quality, and ensuring that every classroom has what it needs for students to succeed.

After graduating from Bucknell University with a degree in neuroscience, Phil joined Teach for America and became a beloved 7th-grade science teacher. His students knew him as the teacher who could break down hard lessons, and school leadership recognized his ability to reach struggling kids.

Phil's drive to support students led him to serve in the San Francisco Unified School District's central office, where he worked to strengthen curriculum, support teachers, and direct resources to where they were needed most.

Today, Phil brings that same drive to his role as President of the San Francisco Board of Education, appointed by the Mayor in 2024 after years of leadership in schools and the community.

Phil's leadership has always been rooted in one core belief: when we bring people together, our kids win. As Board of Education president, he's focused on improving academic outcomes, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and restoring trust in public education—uniting families, teachers, and community members around the shared goal of helping every student thrive.

Beyond his work in education, Phil has served on the boards of organizations like the Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center (LYRIC) and the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club.

Phil Kim has always stepped up when kids needed him most. Now, our hard working and dedicated Board of Education president needs our help to get elected. Phil will be on the June 2nd ballot to complete his current term and he will be on the November 3rd ballot for a full four-year term.
