What is the Moshannon Support Network?
The Moshannon Support Network is a project of Juntos, a community-led, Latine immigrant organization based in South Philadelphia. We fight for our rights as workers, parents, youth, and immigrants—because we believe in a world without cages or borders, and we know that no human being is disposable.
The support network was born out of urgency—after one of our own community members was detained and subjected to prolonged solitary confinement at the Moshannon Valley Immigration Detention Center. In response, we built a network of care and resistance to connect with people inside through visits, letters, and commissary support.
Why now?
There are currently over 42,000 people in immigration detention across the U.S.—more than ever before—and that number is still rising. People are spending longer stretches of time behind bars while awaiting deportation proceedings, often suffering horrific abuses. These detention centers, operated by private prison companies, are built to dehumanize. They are designed to punish, isolate, and destroy people. Cruelty isn’t a flaw in the system—it is the system.
What do we do?
We work to expose the inhumane conditions at Moshannon, demand its closure, and stand in solidarity with those inside. Since launching the network, we’ve supported over 70 people through direct material aid and ongoing communication. Many of those we’ve supported continue to organize with us after release, contributing to a collective struggle to dismantle the systems that detained them.
As long as detention exists, we will keep showing up. We are building a world rooted in dignity, community, and care—a world where no one is locked away and forgotten.
