Nebraska awards their electoral votes using the Congressional District Method. That means the winner of each congressional district receives one electoral vote.
Cook Political Report rates Nebraska’s second as an even district. It has been represented by a Republican in Congress since 2017, but Joe Biden won it in 2020, and thus received their one electoral vote. In a close election, that one vote could be critical.
If Kamala Harriswere to win the swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, but lose Arizona, Nevada and Georgia, that would leave her with 269 electoral votes to Donald Trump’s 268.
In that scenario, the winner of Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district wins the election. A Harris victory would give her 270 to Trump’s 268. A loss would leave each candidate with 269, and throw the race to the House of Representatives, where the Republican majority would chose Trump.
