PLEASE NOTE: The date was changed from October 23rd to October 29th.

We invite you to join us on Monday, October 29th from 4-5:30pm at LULU (200 S. Palm Canyon Drive) for a fundraiser that we are hosting for a good friend of ours, Dr. Raul Ruiz, who is up 3 points in his race against Mary Bono Mack. Raul is an extraordinary individual who needs our help in this very important election. I hope that you will come support his campaign at our event. Senator Barbara Boxer will also be attending to support Dr. Ruiz.

Raul grew up in a trailer in Coachella, where his parents worked in the fields. From a young age, he aspired to become a doctor, and worked to make his dream a reality. After graduating from high school, he went door-to-door in his community to ask local business owners to help him pay for college, with a promise to return and practice medicine. He graduated from UCLA and went on to Harvard, where he earned his Medical Degree, as well as degrees from the Kennedy School of Government and the School of Public Health, becoming the first Latino to earn three graduate degrees from Harvard. He fulfilled his promise to return home after completing his medical training, and now works as an ER doctor at Eisenhower Medical Center.

Over the past few years, Raul has been doing great work in this community. Recognizing that parts of this district have a dire physician shortage crisis, he started a pre-medical mentorship program for students in the area who want to become doctors. Through the group Volunteers in Medicine, he has helped open a free clinic to help the underserved of the Coachella Valley. His good work has not been limited to this area; for his 2010 medical work in Haiti, he was awarded the Commander’s Award for Public Service from the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne. In 2011, the Desert Sun-published Desert Magazine named him “Person of the Year.”

Never before has Mary Bono Mack been so close to losing her seat in Congress. The latest poll shows that Dr. Ruiz is up 3 points (46-43). In the most recent fundraising quarter, Dr. Ruiz out-raised Mary Bono Mack by $150,000 - the second time in this election so far that he has beaten her in fundraising. Mary and her Republican allies know this, and have pored over $1M in support from the Republican party and SuperPACs, including Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS. Dr. Ruiz needs our help to cross the finish line and win.

We hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday, October 23rd to meet Raul and support his campaign. We are asking our friends to contribute $250, $500, or $1,000 to Raul's campaign to help our efforts.
