Orange KISS: Keep It Safe & Smart - June 3, 2017Last year, 500+ corporations, non-profits, elected officials, iconic landmarks, and hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country joined together June 2 for the second-annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day and #WearOrange.
#WearOrange was inspired by Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago high school student killed by gunfire. Her friends honored her life by wearing orange, the color of safety donned by hunters to protect themselves in the woods.
This year, we're planning #WearOrange events nationwide to share our vision for a community free of gun violence.
In Tampa, we're partnering with Indivisible Action Together Tampa Bay, The Portico, and other local organizations for a family friendly day of music, art, and fun - Orange KISS: Keep It Safe & Smart. Join us June 3, 2 to 5 p.m. at The Portico, 1001 N. Florida Ave., Tampa.
Other Moms Demand Action initiatives include:BeSMART: A national campaign to help parents and adults prevent child gun deaths and injuries. Each year, Moms volunteers hold hundreds of presentations across the country to educate parents on safe gun storage and how to help reduce unintentional child shootings.
Gun Sense University: Moms Demand Action has developed dozens of activist and organizing skills trainings that run year-round throughout the country. Since its inception in 2015, Gun Sense University has trained hundreds of activists and survivors to increase their impact in working to reduce gun violence.
