The Nebraska Stonewall Democrats launched our inaugural Lavender Gala fundraiser last year with immense success, and we cannot wait to continue a new tradition for our community!
With the funds raised, we were able to increase our presence in our community through amenities such as table covers and parade banners. We paid for sponsorships at 6 Pride events across Nebraska and found new ways for the Democratic Party to engage the community by hosting events like Gays Eating Garlic Bread in both Omaha and Lincoln. Your donations help us continue our mission to uplift queer youth, cultivate queer candidates, and get out the queer/ally vote!
This year, our keynote Speaker will be newly elected DNC Vice Chair Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, a third-generation North Philadelphia native and legislator currently serving in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
Representative Kenyatta is a barrier-breaking public figure, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ person of color and one of the youngest people elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2018. In 2022, he became the
first openly LGBTQ+ person of color to seek a U.S. Senate seat in American history.
In April 2024, he made history again as the first openly LGBTQ+ person ever nominated for statewide office by a major political party in Pennsylvania when he became the Democratic nominee for Auditor General.
In February 2025, he was elected as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Thank you for your support. Together, we can fight to make Nebraska a place that welcomes us instead of turning us away.
SQY Initiative
The Nebraska Stonewall Democrats created the Stonewall Queer Youth Initiative, or SQY Initiative, following our Inaugural Lavender Gala. The SQY Initiative aims to bring as many of Nebraska's queer youth as possible to our ticketed events at no charge to them or their guardians.
As the queer caucus of the Nebraska Democratic Party, we made it our mission to uplift and engage with queer youth because we know the inundation of anti-queer bills during the 2023-2024 legislative sessions has had a lasting impact on the kids in our community, as well as those who love them.
One of the ways we are doing that is by bringing them to an event where they can not only celebrate queer joy and be themselves, but also meet some of the individuals fighting for them in the political arena. With these packages, if you would like, the donor will be listed on a separate sponsor board so those attending can see that you stand with us in that mission.
