Re-Imagine L.A. County

A Care First Vision for L.A. County

Over the past decade, Angelenos across the County have worked to develop a Care First vision for Los Angeles. Measure J was a continuation of that vision and a mandate to elected officials and decision-makers about where we go from here. The initiative seeks to correct the historical wrongdoings and move away from a carceral infrastructure. This is how we start to re-imagine L.A. County.

Implementation

It’s not enough to just pass a ballot measure or initiative. We also have to hold elected leaders and decision-makers accountable to ensure the fidelity of what voters approved. We bring this accountability through implementation, which is the process for how funding is allocated through Measure J.

Implementation includes:

  • The creation of an advisory committee to help guide how L.A. County prioritizes housing, jail diversion, job training and other community resources in the budget;
  • Public meetings where community stakeholders can provide input on Measure J implementation; and,
  • L.A. County Board of Supervisors meetings where you can provide public comment on the CEO’s proposed budget.

Measure J Advisory Committee

Housed within La Defensa, the Measure J advisory committee consists of several members that lend the voices of L.A. County’s most impacted and marginalized such as Black, Brown, & Indigenous communities. Divided into five subcommittees, together they determine recommendations for what investments to prioritize through Measure J.
