Failing to invoke cloture was a statement by Democrats that we filibuster this nomination. Unfortunately, Republican Leader Mitch McConnell wasted little time to put partisanship ahead of statesmanship. He immediately forced a series of procedural votes to change Senate rules to eliminate the 60 vote threshold for cloture on Supreme Court nominees. Not having enough votes to override a filibuster, Senator McConnell chose to lower the threshold to a simple majority or 50 votes.

It is clear that a Republican-led Senate is a dangerous Senate. We can’t stand for Republicans that damage the very fabric of the Senate -- an institution which I have fought to protect throughout my 42 years as a senator. So I need your help today to fight back against these dangerous actions, and build a Senate that we can believe in.

It’s time we take back the Senate for good -- Make a contribution today to support the DSCC’s work in 2018!
