Life After Release

Give to Life After Release

Mass incarceration throws away Black mothers. They are taken away from their children. They never get a chance to start their lives which becomes much harder after release from a cage. Many don’t make it and the cycle of mass incarceration goes on.

Like our ancestors who fought against fundamentally unjust systems, we are working to abolish the criminal legal system imposed on us as an extension of slavery. Our vision is to rebuild the most devastated Black communities in the Maryland-DC-Virginia area that have been crushed by 40 years of the War on Drugs and mass incarceration.

Life After Release is led by Black formerly incarcerated women. We organize to free other women from jail and prison and empower them through political education and training them in grassroots organizing and advocacy.
