Lisa Brown serves as the Oakland County Clerk/ Register of Deeds, a position she has been elected to three times, initially taking office in 2013. Clerk Brown is the chief elections officer for Michigan’s second most populous county and a Certified Elections/ Registration Administrator (CERA), the highest designation for election administration professionals.

 

Under her stewardship, the Oakland County Elections Division has taken on an expanded role, collaborating with local municipalities to develop the state’s largest consolidated absent voter counting board, which received national recognition for “Excellence in Innovation” from the National Association of Counties (NACo). Most recently, Oakland County partnered with local communities to pilot the state’s largest early voting program in November 2023, which will be available to voters statewide starting this year.

 

Beyond Elections, Clerk Brown administers one of the busiest departments of its kind in the state. As the official “keeper of the record,” the County Clerk/ Register is responsible for receipt and safeguarding of public records including, but not limited to, birth, death, and marriage records, circuit court filings, property records, and concealed pistol licenses.

 

Clerk Brown is active with the Michigan Association of County Clerks (MACC) and the Michigan Association of Registers of Deeds (MARD) and has been elected by her colleagues to various leadership positions including 3rd Vice President for MACC. She was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Michigan Electronic Recording Commission.
