Making Historic Changes

As the Coles representative on the Prince William County school board, I have been part of making history:

• We hired Dr. LaTanya McDade as our Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer.
• With stakeholder input, we passed an ambitious Strategic Plan.
• We added 4 holidays to the calendar that honor the diversity of our student population: Eid al Fitr, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Diwali.
• During these challenging times, I supported teacher and staff raises, equity initiatives, and adding school counselors and social workers to our schools.
• Our board also worked on the first Green Initiative that will ensure that we are working toward better sustainability as we renovate and build new schools. PWCS was one of 4 districts across the country that was recognized by the USDOE with a Green Award.
