About Hugo
Hugo was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles to immigrant street vendors. After his dad become disabled, he started working at a non-union hotel to help out his family. Right before graduating college, Hugo was approached by a co-worker to form a union. He said "yes," and at 23-years-old took on a major corporation and helped win wage increases, healthcare, and respect on the job for his fellow workers.
Today, Hugo is a lead organizer with UNITE HERE Local 11 where he has worked for the last 15 years. He knows what it takes to win material gains for workers, immigrants, the unhoused, people of color, young people, all of us who have been neglected by our city officials and the bosses they serve.
