Governor Greg Abbott is staking his re-election campaign on the vilification of medical treatment for children. Look, no one said he’s a smart man, but he’s a powerful one.

And at his direction, Texas state health agencies are now investigating medical treatments for transgender adolescents — treatments that are considered standard care for trans youths — as “child abuse” that must be reported to authorities.

Between this and the anti-abortion laws, it’s really unclear what’s keeping doctors in Texas. They can almost freeze to death in any number of states!

Abbott’s order does not even create a new law, but rather says current laws allow him to reclassify this medical treatment as “abuse”. Those who are required to report abuse like nurses and teachers will face criminal charges if they fail to do so.

Now’s your chance to do more than rant about it in the mentions of a Twitter bot. If you chip in a few dollars to the Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT), you’ll be helping an incredible organization that is working everyday to provide emergency relief to trans kids in Texas and striving hard to fight discrimination through social, legislative, and corporate education. We are hoping to raise $5,000 as a start of all the ways we plan to support their efforts. Just think how much that’d piss off your Twitter rival and very real-person, @USPatriotJeffrey3894!

We’re living through an incredible assault on our core values and basic human rights on so many fronts. And it is always the most vulnerable among us who are the first to face such attacks. Thanks for joining us in standing by their side.
