In the United States, of one hundred forty-seven anti-LGBTQ+ legislative proposed measures last year, a record 13 bills "attacking transgender youth" were enacted into law. That is putting LGBTQ+ activists on edge for what could happen in a pivotal year leading up to the mid-term elections. For starters, advocates believe 2022 will worsen the trend as Republicans seek to give their base fuel by November. Our opposition is just looking for the place where they can spread enough fear and misinformation that they're able to confuse fair-minded people long enough to get some bills passed. Their plans include Pennsylvania and Montco too.
Please join us on Saturday, June 18th, 2002 for Joy and Justice - an Awards Luncheon and evening Dance Party with Drag Performances at the Mahoney Event Center in Ambler. The event will take place during the Ambler Arts & Music Festival. Mahoney Event Center is just a footstep away. What a great way to celebrate PRIDE Month!
Your contribution helps support a queer safe space during the Ambler Arts & Music Festival where we can truly express ourselves. You will also help fuel our efforts to mobilize our community and to elect pro-equality candidates who are allies to the cause and enable Ricky's Pride to continue our work in achieving a more equitable world for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Awards Luncheon 11am-1PM
Ricky’s Pride will recognize those in our community, including both our members and our allies, for extraordinary work that goes above and beyond the call of duty. This Pride we will announce awards to honor and distinguish our volunteers, members, neighbors and friends who have exceeded all expectations in the fight for true equality.
Visible Change Award
One measure of success in our movement is how much “Visible Change” we are able to create in our community. Change can be measured in a number of different ways. Most notably change can be brought about through effective legislation that creates real relief, support and protections for the LGBTQIA+ members of our community. Visible Change is not limited to legislation, however, and can include any advocate, or volunteer who works on behalf of our community to bring about real results. This year, Ricky’s Pride will announce one winner of our coveted Visible Change award—stay tuned!
Ally Award
Our straight and cis gendered allies are a powerful part of the LGBTQIA+ movement for equal rights. Allies are friends, advocates, activists and supporters who speak up publically and privately to challenge homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia, and join us in our fight to advance the rights of all people. Ricky’s Pride is happy to announce we are working on an ally award this year-could it be you? Stay tuned for more details!
Change Agent Award
Every organizational change, whether large or small, requires one or more change agents. A change agent is anyone who has the skill and power to stimulate, facilitate, and coordinate the change effort. Change agents may be either external or internal. The success of any change effort depends heavily on the quality and workability of the relationship between the change agent and the key decision makers within the organization. Many times, these folks are the decision makers.
Benevolence Award
This award is given to a citizen in recognition of their selfless service to the community. It is in this same spirit that by giving this award, we extol the virtues of being a good citizen – to genuinely care for people, to help where and when you can, and to improve your own community, without being motivated by recognition or profit.
Buddy Award
Ricky’s Pride is so grateful for the support of so many people in our LGBTQ+ community. Many are LGBTQ+. Others are allies who, when asked, provide support. Everyone who helps us is invaluable — we could not do what we do without you! While it is difficult to individually recognize all of those who make significant contributions, each year there are a few individuals who do distinguish themselves by going above and beyond.
5-11PM Dance Party with Drag Performaces in association with Montgomery County Guerrilla Gay Bar. Featuring local area LGBTQ+ DJ's and Drag Perfomances sprinkled througout the evening.
