Ending Chronic Absenteeism
Nearly 4 in 10 D.C. students are chronically absent—and blaming families will not bring students back to school. Chronic absence is a warning sign that students are facing barriers at home, in their communities, or at school. We can address those barriers together: with safe passage to school, resources for teachers and classrooms, strong academics and extracurricular activities that keep students engaged, and timely data that helps us understand what is working. This crisis is solvable, and it starts with all of us showing up.
Invest in the Kids: Every Dollar Traced Back to a Classroom
DC spends billions on public education. Families deserve to know where that money goes, what reaches their schools, and whether students receive the support they were promised. Every dollar intended for students should reach them.
Protecting Our School Communities
Right now, ICE and National Guard presence is a constant threat to our students and families, and that's not something we should accept as normal. As a State Board member, I'll work with our community to build and strengthen the alert systems that keep our kids safe — so no parent has to choose between sending their child to school and keeping them out of harm's way.
Excellent Public Schools: Right Here in Ward 5
When a student's school is across DC, families pay for it in time, transportation, and complicated daily schedules. Ward 5 students deserve rigorous academics, arts, athletics, and real student support without a long trip across town. Excellent public schools close to home are part of what makes DC affordable for families.
