I'm Burhan Azeem, a city councilor in Cambridge, and I have a simple solution to the housing crisis we're facing in my city, and every community across the state: build more housing.


Actually putting that solution into practice is tough. This week I published a column in my local paper taking my own city to task for building just 5 new units of housing over the past year. That's right 5. Experts estimate MA is hundreds of thousands of units short of where we need to be for a healthy housing market, so numbers that can be counted on your fingers aren't going to cut it.




This issue is personal for me. I'm a renter, and last spring I faced the same slog that so many people across our state face: finding a new apartment in the community I live in.

Over the last 2 years, I've successfully abolished parking minimums, expanded the Affordable Housing Overlay to make it easier for 100% affordable developments to be built, and raised awar
