***UPDATE***
With your help, DJ secured a new, dedicated legal team and DJ was finally released from Texas' most violent jail (Hays County Jail) on Dec. 11th, 2023!
However, the state is still trying to prosecute DJ for the same crime for which they long ago dropped charges against his co-defendant, Cyrus Gray.
Our county has already taken far too many precious years of DJ's life that he will never get back. While he has enjoyed his long-overdue release, these charges continue to linger over his head.
We must remain steadfast in our commitment to support DJ until he is truly free. Right now, that means continuing to donate to his legal defense fund. Please share, donate, and keep an eye out for upcoming community fundraising events to support DJ. We will have plenty in the coming months; stay tuned!

*UPDATE*
On 12/6/23, DJ's bond was significantly reduced, making it easier for him to bail out of jail. We are now raising money to help him cover the bond and get released.
We also are continuing to raise funds to cover the cost of his defense.

Devonte "DJ" Amerson has been incarcerated pretrial in Hays County for over 5 years, despite the state having zero compelling arguments for considering him a suspect. While he has been held in jail, he’s been pressured to take various deals such as pleading guilty to a violent crime that he didn’t commit.
DJ's previous, court-appointed attorney was neglectful, unprofessional, and disrespectful to DJ and his family. Unfortunately, issues like these are all too common with court-appointed attorney systems (DJ’s case is not covered under Hays’ new Public Defender office, which is still ramping up.) DJ's family was successful in raising funds to get him a new attorney.
