For over 7 years, Lamount Harvey suffered from the cruel injustices of Hays County Jail and its criminal legal system. In 2015, Lamount was charged with the capital murder of his friend, despite detectives assuring him that he was not a suspect of the terrible incident. Since then Lamount was held in Hays County Jail, pretrial, with an oppressively high bond. For 7 years he sat in limbo as the state played cruel games with his life, constantly resetting his court date and denying him bond reductions.
While Lamount was stuck in pretrial incarceration he was unable to get the medical care that he desperately needed. Lamount has suffered from obesity, serious heart and health conditions, mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, depression and more, experiencing severe symptoms which need appropriate and immediate care.
The case against Lamount has been so ridiculous, inhumane and unjust to the point that the District Attorney's office refused to prosecute in hopes that they might find another county that would take over the nightmare that they have put Lamount through for nearly 7 years now. The Hays District Attorney’s Office picked the case against Lamount back up when they could not find another county brazen enough to prosecute such a ridiculous accusation.
Fortunately for Lamount, his judge is apparently just as fed up with the shenanigans of Hays County and its criminal legal system. On June 20th Judge Steel issued Lamount a $250k Personal Recognizance Bond so that he may be released from pretrial detention while his case is still pending on Hays County's court docket.
Now back with his wife and kids, Lamount is ready to start his life back up. Please donate to help support his re-entry, as he deals with medical bills and the challenges of totally re-starting after 7 years of wrongful incarceration.
