I think the best way to describe what community organizers do is something I picked up at the Organizing Revival:
We bring people together to tackle the problems that allow corporations and right wing demagogues to thrive. This is why I organize with the People's Lobby -- Together we've made huge strides in building a better world:
We're not even close to being done. We're currently 10 years into a 30 year plan to build real progressive power in not just "safe" areas like Chicago. And let's be clear: Peel back a layer of Chicago's political scene and you'll see it isn't at all that safe.
To do this work we need to bring folks together.
And one of the ways we do this is by training folks in how to be a better organizer. This is why I'm raising $1,500 -- So folks like me can get trained in building the kind of power we need to make sure folks have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, a roof over their head, and health care when they get sick.
The People's Lobby is my organizing home. We are not perfect, but we throw down and have fun doing it. With your help, we can do even more!
