The North Carolina A. Philip Randolph Institute’s Mary’s Pantry would like to thank those of you that have helped in the success of our pantry. Our pantry operation has been in the headquarters of the North Carolina American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (NC AFL-CIO), located at 1408 Hillsborough Street, in Raleigh, North Carolina, since its inception in 2000. Started by APRI member, Mary Montford, who urged husband, Melvin Montford, to present the idea of creating an office
and pantry that would be ran by the NC APRI to feed the community. After the space was given to Mary for use. She set out to raise funds for the pantry and sought out the partnership of the Foodbank of Central & Eastern NC to acquire the needed food to stock the shelves. Once the donations started
coming in and the partnership with the foodbank flourished. She enlisted the help of other APRI members like Mrs. Ann Young, Mrs. Cleo Salter, and others to serve the clients. The community was so grateful for the efforts of Mary.
The North Carolina A. Philip Randolph Institute Pantry was known by everyone as “Mary’s Pantry”. Mary kept up the operation of the pantry until 2019. She then turned the pantry operation over to me, Wayne Bostick, coincidently, the same year the Covid-19 Pandemic started. I never stopped the operation of the pantry during the pandemic. Pantries were considered Essential Services by the
Governor's office. The availability of food for people that were out of work was high. Seeing this huge need. I carried the pantry distribution outside the walls of the pantry and started doing popup food distributions in other counties around the state. I partnered the pantry with the NC Counts Coalition to assist in getting the word out about the 2020 U.S. Census. This effort got the pantry featured in the U.S Census Bureau's Monthly magazine.
We have served thousands of clients and distributed millions of pounds of food over the years. But a lot of what we have done would not have been possible without donations from people like you. I invite you to celebrate with us our successes and help us with the looming crises of Food Insecurity that is coming on the horizon. Any amount at all will be appreciated.
Scan the QR Code, drop by the pantry at 1408 Hillsborough Street/Raleigh/NC/27605 and leave your donation, or write a check out to: NC APRI and mail to P.O. Box 10428/Raleigh/NC/27605, write “For
Pantry” on the MEMO line.
Thank You for your giving.
