June 2nd is National Gun Violence Awareness Day and I’m going to be wearing orange. I will be wearing orange to remember the more than thirty-three thousand gun-related deaths in America every year. For the last several years I have watched as common-sense reforms like universal background checks and closing loopholes have been halted at the state and federal levels and I’ve decided it is time to do something about it. That is why I am volunteering for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Moms Demand Action is a nonpartisan organization of volunteers that really works for change here locally in Oregon by supporting common-sense measures like SB797 which would prohibit the transfer of a firearm at a gunshop if a background check hasn’t been completed. I am asking my friends and family to donate to Moms Demand Action to help support the work we do and to stand up for obvious, common-sense gun laws.
