My name is Matt Ferry and I am running for the Tennessee House of Representatives in District 48, which is the eastern half of Rutherford County.

I am running for this seat because I am appalled at the outrageous corruption and grift that occurs within our state government. It has been 16 years since a Republican Supermajority took over the Tennessee General Assembly.

Since that time, the Republicans have doubled the state's budget, but we the people have not received double the benefits. Instead, our tax dollars have gone to tax breaks for the wealthy.

While GE, Amazon, FedEx, and other corporations pay little or zero state taxes, the burden rests on the residents of Tennessee to make up the difference, while experiencing no improvement in the quality of life issues of greatest importance.

The Republican Supermajority has defunded our public schools while redirecting public school dollars to private, unaccountable schools. They have also defunded our hospitals by failing to accept federal money. Over 20 rural hospitals have been closed due to their decision not to expand Medicaid.

The Republicans have also failed to address the rising costs of housing, higher education, and transportation. Instead of investing in rail, they are implementing private toll lanes for the rich on our interstates, and giving billionaire grifters like Elon Musk free rein to build a tunnel in Nashville and to set up unregulated AI data centers in Memphis that spew toxic chemicals into predominately African-American neighborhoods.

The Tennessee GOP have kept corporate taxes low and worked to restrict federal and state funding for much needed social programs like SNAP. They have intentionally underfunded state agencies like TDEC, DCS, TDOC, and again, the entire state's public education system.

We need our state legislators to work on polices that help the residents of this state, and not to be focused on the interests of rich elites who can afford to pay their fair share of taxes like everyone else.

We need our lawmakers to be serious about helping Tennesseans. If elected, I promise to work on policies that lift people up, not tear them down.

Matt's Top Five Priorities for Rutherford County:

1. Fully Fund Public Education
2. Fully Fund Healthcare by accepting Medicaid Expansion
3. Regulate the reckless practices at the Middle Point Landfill including limiting the number of counties that can dump there.
4. Limit the amount of housing properties that corporations can own and focusing on policies that make homeownership affordable for the average Tennessean.
5. Advocate for rail and other transportation solutions that don't solely revolve around automobiles.
