About Matt Hughes
From a young age, Matt’s family stressed the importance of education as a means for opportunity, telling him “school is his job.” Through hard work and a quality public education, Matt went on to become the first member of his family to graduate from college.
At 21 years old, Matt became one of the youngest county chairs ever when he was elected to serve as Chair of the Orange County Democratic Party. Matt made history as the first openly LGBTQ+ elected official in Hillsborough’s history when he was elected to the Board of Commissioners.
Matt’s leadership of local and state Democrats has helped improve the lives of everyday North Carolinians by electing Democrats at every level.
Matt continues his fight to solve problems and improve lives for those who feel underrepresented - and that's why we need to send him to the General Assembly.
