Maurice Mercer is the Democratic Nominee for Congressional District 6 (AL). He has called CD6 home for over 20 years. He has carved an impressive path marked by leadership and community involvement.
Mercer was first elected to the Pelham City Council in 2012. Winning re-election in 2016 and 2020 demonstrate the trust he has earned from the community. Mercer also served as the City Council President. Notably, he is the first African-American elected to office in the City of Pelham at Large.
Maurice Mercer is a proud graduate of Troy University with a degree in Business Administration. After college Mercer worked 7 years organizing for (RWDSU) Retail, Wholesale, Department Store Union. Mercer's unique private sector experience is also blended with entrepreneurship and management experience
Maurice believes in community building, fiscal responsibility, and government transparency. Mercer embodies principled leadership. His dedication to professional growth led to his certification as a Certified Municipal Official (CMO) by the Alabama League of Municipalities in 2021 and Advanced designation in 2024, showcasing his commitment to excellence in public service. His contributions to Pelham have garnered recognition, including consecutive Public Servant of the Year nominations in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
