Friends and longtime supporters,

Mary and I are deeply humbled by the outpouring of support by many people over the last few days. It has been the greatest honor and privilege of my life to serve you and our community in the United States Congress for the last 16 years. I am very proud of the many accomplishments in my time in office, including the creation of the Stockton VA Clinic, and securing major investments for our infrastructure, public safety, schools and healthcare. I’m proud of the record we have achieved. 

I'm now running for the California State Senate in District 5, which covers San Joaquin and Alameda Counties, because just like in 2004 and 2006, it is my duty to ensure we have experienced leadership that fights the climate crisis and advocates for the air that we breathe and the water we drink. I'm running because we must seek good healthcare for our families, more affordable housing for our community, and brighter opportunities for our children's future. 

In a post-Dobbs era, we must also protect women’s healthcare and reproductive rights, and work to ensure women earn as much as their counterparts–something I've continually worked on through the GIRLS STEM Act. Inequality in our community is at an all-time high and we must work with partners at every level of government to make a meaningful difference. I’ve fought tirelessly for those in need and will continue to do so. That is why I am running.

Friends, I was not expecting to return to politics after leaving Congress, but it looks like we’ve kickstarted a new chapter and Team McNerney is back to make a difference in our community!
