About Mario

Mario Enríquez is a dedicated and committed leader to Stockton and the Central Valley - a region he is proud to call home. He currently serves as the Director of the Center for Identity & Inclusion and a professor at the University of the Pacific. His focus is on building campus-wide awareness and competence regarding cultural inclusion and equity.

At a young age, Mario embraced his Central Valley roots and pursued various opportunities in part due to the sacrifices that his mother made for him to pursue the American Dream. For the past decade, Mario has had a strong record of public service, elevating diverse voices and amplifying young leaders. Mario most recently engaged and informed the nation’s network of LGBTQ elected and appointed leaders as Victory Institute's Director of Constituent Engagement in Washington, DC. There he worked to train and support LGBTQ+ individuals around the world to run for elected office - and win! He also led the programming for the Annual International LGBTQ Leaders Conference, a gathering that attracts more than 500 attendees annually and is the preeminent leadership event for LGBTQ political leadership. During his tenure, he restructured and led a wide range of leadership programs and their signature Candidate & Campaign trainings.

After completing graduate school in 2016, Mario returned to Washington to gain legislative experience on Capitol Hill where he was selected as the Higher Education Post-Graduate Fellow with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). Mario has had the unique lived experience to travel the world, live in various cities, all with bringing best-practices and solutions right back to his home in Stockton. He’s ready to bring a bold, fresh perspective to the region and to the people of Stockton and District 4. Mario received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA and a Master’s in Public Administration from the USC Price School of Public Policy in Los Angeles, CA.
