Texas has the highest prison population in the United States- more than 251,000 people are locked up right now. That is the highest incarceration rate of any democracy in the world.
Once released, these individuals AND their families are constantly met with legal, social, institutional, and economic discrimination- despite having already paid their debt to society. MELJ works to help them to overcome those barriers that stop them from being responsible, engaged, and empowered members of the community.
