Michael Brennan returned to the Legislature in 2018 having previously served four terms in the Maine House and three in the Maine Senate. During his previous terms in the House, Michael chaired the Education Committee and the Joint Select Committee on Substance Use and served on the Health and Human Services and the Business and Economic Development Committees. As a state senator, he served as majority leader and chaired the Health and Human Services Committee, the Joint Select Committee on Health Care Reform and the Blue Ribbon Commission on MaineCare Reform. Michael is a licensed clinical social worker and has been an adjunct faculty member at both the University of Southern Maine and the University of New England. He served as mayor of Portland from 2011 to 2015. Michael lives in Portland with his wife of more than 35 years, Joan Martay. They have two grown children and one grandchild.
