As someone in our schools every day, I see the challenges facing our kids and our educators. Children needing a little extra help to become a proficient reader. Teachers being asked to do more with less. Parents wondering if we're doing enough to make sure our children have a safe environment to learn. Schools having to make tough choices with the uncertainty in state and federal funding.
Unfortunately, our current leadership is ill equipped to respond to these challenges because they've made the choice to disengage from the people they are supposed to represent. They've not only limited avenues to provide input from parents, students, and teachers, but they have made no effort to go out into the community to make important connections with those in our schools. No town halls. No community events.
Our schools are at their best when parents are engaged and work as partners with our educators to improve the school environment for our kids. We can bring that spirit of collaboration county-wide in fostering a culture within our district that welcomes community input as opposed to silencing it and that brings people together rather than divides us.
As a leader in our schools, I have been active in creating avenues for increased parental engagement and strengthening parent-teacher relationships. I’ll bring that same energy to our school board as your board member for Post 4.
