A Very Special Event: Dinner with Sandra Fluke
The DFOC is proud to honor Women’s Rights and Health Care Advocate Sandra Fluke, with a very special dinner that will be held in the intimate setting of a small, private dining room at Tustin’s stately Nieuport 17 restaurant. We’ll all be seated at the same table with the brave and talented Ms. Fluke; and, the conversation promises to be meaningful, entertaining, and insightful. We hope that you will be a part of it.
In 2012 Republicans in Congress barred Ms. Fluke’s testimony on the need for birth control mandates in insurance plans. Speaking subsequently to only House Democrats, Ms. Fluke spoke compellingly, eloquently, and logically on the need for such mandates. This garnered coast-to-coast applause from proponents of women’s rights, which led to an invitation for Ms. Fluke to be a featured speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Her powerful speech at the podium that night moved America and moved Americans.
Since then Ms. Fluke has continued the fight for women’s rights and health care, and has gone on to work hard to promote the rights of the LGBTQ community, fight human trafficking, battle domestic violence, and help victims of poverty.
By the way, as you know, when Ms. Fluke was battling Republicans in Congress and right-wing talk show hosts, she was a law student at Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. Well since then, she graduated law school cum laude, and is now a California attorney, making her home right here in Southern California – and, working as hard as ever on behalf of those who need her, and on behalf of equality and justice for all.
Please join us for a very special, private dinner with a true American hero, Sandra Fluke.
