Thriving Futures: Guaranteed Income for Working-Class Muslim Women

embed errored

This Ramadan, Muslims for Just Futures is launching a $50,000 zakat-eligible fundraiser for Thriving Futures. Muslims For Just Futures is thrilled to launch Thriving Futures, the first small scale guaranteed income pilot in the country focused on working-class Muslim women.

This guaranteed income pilot program will support 5 working-class Muslim women in the DMV who are heads of household with $500 in monthly cash assistance for 18 months.

We are raising $45000 for direct cash assistance, and another $5,000 to support the development of a documentary that would document the stories from Thriving Futures as a model for how grassroots groups can lead guaranteed income programs without being dependent on government funding.

Muslims for Just Futures will partner with A Wider Circle to ensure that participants have additional support beyond cash assistance, including workforce development support, career coaching, professional clothing, and financial literacy training. A Wider Circle will also provide thought partnership as we organize our community to advance guaranteed income programs in the DMV region.

We invite you to support the Thriving Futures Guaranteed Income Program by making a Zakat eligible donation to MJF and by spreading the word to your friends and family. As Muslims, zakat is a core pillar of our faith.

Allah SWT says in Surat Al Isra:26 “Give to the near of kin his due, and also to the needy and the wayfarers.”

Moreover, conscious givers are put on a high pedestal, as it is equally important to support the less fortunate in our community than intensively performing acts of worship.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said "The one who looks after and works for a widow and for a poor person, is like a warrior fighting for Allah's Cause or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all the night." - Narrated Abu Huraira that the Prophet (ﷺ) said as above.

Sahih al-Bukhari 6006

Your contribution will help us carry on the program. It will help us make a long lasting impact in the participants' life and their pursuit of financial stability. An economically thriving community is a major step towards building our power and attaining a just future for all.
