In 2021, we asked that you support our first Deep Democracy Massachusetts slate of Springfield city council candidates. This year, we invite you to support Zaida Gonovan's re-election, and Justin Hurst's campaign for Mayor, to help keep the progressive momentum going in Springfield.
- Zaida Govan is a lifelong Springfield resident who moved from Puerto Rico when she was just three years old, has the lived experience and leadership background to be a bold leader in this predominantly Black and Latino ward in Springfield. Govan’s work has centered on racial and economic justice in Springfield, as she served as President of the Springfield Community Land Trust and as a board member of the Wellspring Collaborative.Govan is running for re-election to the City Council because she wants to continue her mission to continue to give back to the City that saved her life.
- Justin Hurst is a life long Springfield resident and City Council President. He is a former educator who has been on the council since 2013. During his time as Council President, he led equitable distribution of ARPA funding for our families, small businesses, and transportation system. He also led efforts calling for living wages amongst our paraprofessionals. As Mayor, Justin will continue to be a staunch advocate for systemic change and transparent government.
