Maria's List 2023 Cambridge Recommendations

  • Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui has been organizing in Cambridge since she co-founded the Cambridge Youth Involvement Subcommittee, which is now the Cambridge Youth Council. As Mayor, she has guided Cambridge through the pandemic, led a pilot of a universal basic income program, and chaired the City Council to pass Cambridge’s Affordable Housing Overlay, which is already serving as a model for cities across the country. Mayor Siddiqui is seeking another term on the council to continue this work
  • Councilor Denise Simmons has devoted her entire career to public service in Cambridge. In her time in public office, she has been worked to increase access to affordable housing, secure educational opportunities for every student in Cambridge Public Schools, build civic unity, and support local businesses. Her last term includes major policy accomplishments on these very long-term priorities.
  • Ayesha Wilson is a current School Committee Member running for a well-deserved spot on the City Council. Ayesha Wilson was elected to the Cambridge School Committee in 2019 and has been a Maria’s List endorsed candidate. On the School Committee, she was the only social worker and fought for adding social workers to the school budget. Ayesha’s school committee priorities include student mental health, mentorship programs for postgraduate success, and universal pre-k. As a City Councilor, she will continue to prioritize students, affordable health care and childcare.
  • Marc McGovern has been a social worker for 25 years and Marc is running for re-election to his fourth  term on the city council.  A proven collaborator who fights for vulnerable communities, Marc and Denise led the way in doubling the number of affordable housing units in new developments and tripling the amount of money put towards affordable housing from commercial developers.  Marc filed the order to make Cambridge a sanctuary city and has a dedicated staff person working with undocumented residents.
