On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we must reflect deeply on his dreams that remain unfulfilled and leverage our collective power to eradicate racial injustice in all its forms.
While Dr. King dreamed that this nation would rise up and live out the true meaning of “all men are created equal,” Black workers are denied equal employment opportunities and endure systemic obstacles to stable, well-paying jobs with quality benefits. While Dr. King dreamed that Mississippi would be transformed into an “oasis of freedom and justice,” Black women are denied access to full reproductive health care, including postpartum Medicaid coverage, and confront one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation. And while he dreamed that future generations would live in a nation where they “will not be judged by the color of their skin,” Black girls (starting at age 4) are viewed as less innocent, and are disciplined more harshly within the juvenile justice and K-12 public school systems.
Nearly 60 years after Dr. King delivered his acclaimed “I Have a Dream” speech, the fight against racial injustice continues. This MLK Day, act in solidarity to keep his legacy and activism alive as Color Of Change runs and wins real-world change for Black people. Chip in $15 TODAY!
