I grew up in Back of the Yards as the eldest daughter of Mexican immigrants — my dad a garbage collector, my mom a home care worker. Nothing came easy. I worked my way from Whitney Young to Yale, then became a teacher, where I saw every day how systems fail our kids and our families.


That’s why I stepped into organizing. I helped re-elect President Obama, then led the Latino Victory Project, where I helped elect Latino leaders up and down the ballot. Most recently, as Executive Director of Building Back Together, I fought to deliver real results: lowering prescription drug prices, creating good jobs, and securing major infrastructure funding for communities like ours.


Now I’m running for Congress in Illinois’ 4th District because families like mine deserve a champion — someone who will make life more affordable, protect immigrant communities, and defend our democracy from Trump’s threats. This district raised me. I’m ready to fight for it with everything I’ve got.
