Voters in my district are receiving phone calls and surveys filled with racist attacks against me. I’m here to set the record straight and call out these blatant lies.
Here are the facts: twenty-five years ago, I was arrested for being present while somebody else purchased $5 of marijuana. I never set foot into a jail cell. The misdemeanor charge was inaccurately recorded as a felony, followed me, and prevented me from obtaining housing, so I got it expunged.
I’m a proud mother and grandmother, a dedicated educator, a successful entrepreneur, and a racial justice activist.
I knew when I launched this campaign that those in power would be coming for me. The best they could do is dig up a story from twenty-five years ago that only reveals one of the reasons why I'm working so hard for criminal justice reform. Help me fight back against these desperate attacks.
