At Movement Ground Farm we believe in a world where all individuals and families are empowered, sustained, and grounded by an intimate connection to land, food, and community.
We are building towards a day where communities, who have historically been uprooted and displaced due to land theft, slavery, war, gentrification, development, and environmental destruction, can once again turn to land as a source of healing, sustenance, empowerment, reflection, and guidance.
Founded in 2015, by Kohei Ishihara, Movement Ground Farm has undergone significant growth and change in recent years and as of 2021 we have fully transitioned from a sole proprietor enterprise to a non-profit organization and gained our 501c3 status!
Over the past three years, we have:
- Transitioned from "Kohei's farm" to a community-run, farm-based organization with a dedicated board, by-laws, and organizational policies.
- Moved to our current location in Tiverton where we've begun to nurture a longer-term sustainable relationship to the land.
- Expanded our growing operation and CSA membership by 200%, becoming RI's first majority people of color CSA, with a five person farm team that is 100% BIPOC and LGBTQ.
- Provided free and low cost produce to individuals and families through our Solidarity Share program.
- Cultivated new organizational relationships, strengthened our collaborations with our Movement Partners, launched joint programing, hired a Program Coordinator, and welcomed over 600 people to the farm in 2021.
- Launched a new Worker Self-Directed model that gives all of the staff more power in decisions and planning at every level of our operations, and instituted an "equitable wage" policy in which all work and contributions of labor are valued evenly.
Your donation will help us to continue to grow and feed the body, soul, and heart of our communities and the movement!
THANK YOU!
