On Christmas Day 2023, the latest evolution of The Color Purple will be released in theaters nationwide. Produced by Oprah Winfrey and starring Fantasia Barrino and a star-studded African-American cast, The Color Purple is a musical adaptation of Alice Walker's novel about the life-long struggles of an African-American woman (Celie) living in the South during the early 1900s.
One of my favorite pastimes is going to the movies and performing arts shows with my family. My all-time favorite movie is The Color Purple, the 1985 Oscar-nominated, coming-of-age film adaptation. I’m excited to combine my two favorite things and share it with the children in our community who have a passion for the arts.
I’m inviting you to become a sponsor for “Senator Oliver’s Movie Night Out,” a fun, educational community event that I’m spearheading on Friday, January 12, 2024, 6:00 PM at Regal Cinemas Opry Mills. My goal for “Senator Oliver’s Movie Night Out” is to take middle- and high-school students - who are currently enrolled in a theater, music, film or dance program - to see a private screening of the musical film The Color Purple so they can see themselves on the big screen!
I’m requesting your partnership in underwriting the cost of this initiative.
