Hello, it's Laura Hottenstein. I'm a public high school counselor, mother of two boys, and wife to Scott, aka Mr. H to his former students and political friends.
It's that time of year again when Scott gets another year older, and I ask him what he wants for his birthday. Of course, Scott's only request is more support for public education in Florida. He can be frustratingly single-minded when he's on a mission.
As we saw this month, excellent school board candidates lost races across the state due, in large part, to well-funded opposition groups that spent millions of dollars in an effort to gain greater control of school boards throughout Florida.
Scott and his colleagues have been on the ground across the state listening to, commiserating with, and learning from pro-public education school board candidates and supporters. From those conversations, they've developed a plan to help public education champions compete as school board candidates in today's political climate. Help Out Public Education (HOPE) was formed to be aggressive in identifying and developing pro-public education campaigns, raising awareness about the timing and importance of school board elections, and focusing on No Party Affiliation (NPA) and small county voters.
It seems appropriate that Scott's birthday always seems to fall around Giving Tuesday because he is always giving to his family and community.
In honor of both Giving Tuesday and his 52nd trip around the sun, can you please show Scott some birthday love by making a donation to Help Out Public Education (HOPE)?
(Happy Birthday, Scott!)
Laura
