People's Advocacy Institute and our partners are working diligently to meet emergency needs of our communities recovering from the recent climate disaster related winter storm damages. While the full damage is yet to be determined, we know that hundreds of thousand of people in Mississippi have been affected with no running water, broken pipes, roofs, and serious food and water access needs.
We have a goal of raising a minimum of $2 million dollars for emergency funds to assist people in meeting their water and clean up needs in Jackson and impacted rural communities throughout Mississippi. We know that these emergency funds are only a fraction of what will be needed to fix the over 30 year old infrastructure problems in Jackson and rural Mississippi, however. The long-term process will require the federal and state governments to provide the investments with which they have willfully neglected to provide Jackson and predominantly Black, Indigenous and poorer communities for decades. In the meantime, we are supporting community members, local organizations and local municipalities to save ourselves.
We are asking you to give--and ask your friends and neighbors to give--to help us reach our goal to meet immediate needs. Once you give and spread the word, join us in the long term fight for ensuring Black and poorer communities no longer remain the hardest hit from climate related disasters and have the means to be free, safe, cared for and well. Our people deserve it.
