Stronger Together Movement: City of Mullins Update
Progress through Community Collaboration
Since being elected Mayor in November, it has been an honor to serve the community of Mullins. The 'Stronger Together' movement is about building a brighter future for our city, and I'm excited to share the progress we've made together.
Financial Successes
The work began immediately after the election win. We've successfully opened doors to receive $130,000 annually in storm water fees, thanks to active community participation.
Furthermore, working alongside the City Council and our State Senator, we've fulfilled all requirements for a $2.5 million grant to construct a vital retention pond. This project will directly address flooding issues for approximately 20% of our city, significantly improving the lives of many residents.
Addressing Abandoned Properties
We've also secured grant funding to begin demolishing 31 of the 100+ abandoned houses in our area. This is a crucial step in revitalizing our neighborhoods and improving the overall quality of life for everyone in Mullins.
Community Engagement
The establishment of the Planning and Zoning Boards, driven by strong community collaboration, marks a significant step forward in shaping the future of Mullins. We are also seeing well-attended City Council meetings, demonstrating increased civic engagement.
Old Brick Square Yard and Marketplace
I am truly fortunate to witness the splendid vision of our esteemed former Mayor Robert L. Woodbury’s magnificent $2.1 Million+ park blossoming into reality. The Fitness Center, Splash Pad, Restrooms, and Walking Trail are all in the midst of construction, with a playground and amphitheater soon to follow! I have affectionately dubbed this forthcoming haven OBS! This enchanting park will serve as a vibrant hub for entertainment and joy for our entire community while also fostering economic growth for our region as a whole.
Mayoral Committees
To further address key community needs, we've created two mayoral committees:
Mullins Ministerial Alliance - This alliance focuses on tackling critical community issues, with a particular emphasis on violence prevention.
Beautification Committee - This committee is dedicated to enhancing the beauty of our city through initiatives like planting flowers and organizing neighborhood cleanups.
These committees represent a significant investment in improving the quality of life for all residents of Mullins. We believe that by working together, we can create a more vibrant, safe, and beautiful city for everyone.
Summary
I appreciate your support which is the reason why we are at this point in our community. However, the work is not done and your financial support still needed. This will help us to continue to make sure we can communicate with our supports so they are fully aware of the work we are doing together!
Will you consider a donation of any amount to continue our work for the City of Mullins!
