Education is just one of the values Al’s Midwest Values PAC is championing. Together, we’re fighting for the values Al grew up with — like economic and social justice, accountability for the powerful, and opportunity for everyone. (Though as a child, Al probably explained his values in much simpler terms.)
Below, read Al’s childhood story about the Sputnik satellite and what it meant for Al and his brother’s educations, and then make a contribution to support MVP’s efforts.
In the late 1950s when the Sputnik satellite went up, my parents told me and my brother, “You’re going to study math and science, so we can beat the Soviets.” (It was kind of a lot of pressure for a 6 year old.)
My brother became the first in our family to go to college. He graduated from MIT with a degree in physics and became… a photographer.
I tested well in math and science, graduated from Harvard, and became… a comedian (But hey — we beat the Soviets!).
It’s incredibly important how we educate our kids — whether in STEM or the arts — that’s why Midwest Values PAC fights for candidates who will support our students, teachers, and access to affordable, high-quality education.
