Mark your calendar for the newly renamed Vonda McDaniel Labor Day Parade and Celebration on Saturday, September 5th, 2026.
The Central Labor Council of Nashville and Middle TN aims to build durable political, electoral, and economic power for working people in Middle Tennessee. This year’s parade will honor the life and legacy of President Vonda McDaniel. Vonda built the Labor Day Parade from the ground up to increase the visibility of organized labor and celebrate our wins and solidarity. We have fond memories of her zipping around in her golf cart, bringing workers together, and speaking each year to recognize the contributions of our union siblings.
In the year 2026, workers are facing increasing attacks on our livelihood and safety: the current administration has stripped thousands of federal workers of their union rights, big union busting corporations like Starbucks are moving into town, and artificial intelligence poses a growing threat to job security, safety, and privacy. We need our CLC to be in a strong position to support the organizing efforts of affiliates, grow union membership in Middle Tennessee, and fight back against these threats.
Nashville, TN, has organizing and movement building in our DNA. From the student movements and civil rights organizing of the ‘60s, to our work now. As Vonda declared, “Even when the deck is stacked beyond all odds, the strength in numbers that unions provide lifts up entire communities.”
