Americans for Financial Reform

Fund the fight to defend a strong, robust, and independent CFPB now

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is under direct attack.

As judges at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit hear arguments over mass layoffs and efforts to halt the agency’s work, nearly 100 organizations have called on the Senate to stand up for a strong, robust, and independent CFPB.

The administration’s plan to slash staff and freeze enforcement would cripple the only federal agency solely dedicated to protecting consumers from financial abuse. That means fewer investigations into predatory lenders. Fewer actions against junk fees. Fewer protections against discrimination and financial fraud.

Americans for Financial Reform joined CFPB workers to rally outside the courthouse and organized the coalition demanding congressional action. We are mobilizing legal analysis, policy advocacy, grassroots pressure, and coalition partners nationwide to defend the CFPB’s funding, staffing, and independence.

The CFPB has returned tens of billions of dollars to people harmed by corporate misconduct. Weakening it empowers the same financial actors who profit from deception and abuse.

This fight is happening in the courts and in Congress right now. It will require sustained advocacy, rapid response, and coordinated pressure to win.
