Dear Friend,
As a native Baltimorean,I understand the challenges our communities face and the incredible potential we hold when we work together. I’m seeking reelection to the 40th District Democratic State Central Committee because I believe in building stronger neighborhoods, safer communities, and greater opportunities for all of us.
I’ve been on the front lines of the issues that matter most as a Maryland Army National Guard veteran, nonprofit leader, policy advocate, and community organizer. Through my work as Executive Director of the Flowers Whiting Initiative, I’ve fought to empower returning citizens, expand workforce development, and provide trauma-informed resources to families across Baltimore.
I’ve also helped craft landmark legislation like Maryland House Bill 92 (HB 92) and HB 209, which expanded educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals and established the Prison Education Delivery Reform Commission to strengthen reentry pathways and reduce recidivism.
I’m running for reelection because I believe we have more work to do, and I’m committed to fighting for:
✅ Public Safety & Safer Communities — Supporting community-based violence prevention, investing in youth programming, and strengthening partnerships between residents, local organizations, and city agencies.
✅ Empowering Our Communities — Ensuring the voices of District 40 residents shape decisions at the city, state, and party levels.
✅ Expanding Opportunities — Advocating for workforce development, educational investments, and supportive reentry resources for all citizens.
✅ Promoting Equity & Inclusion — Fighting for fair housing access, quality healthcare, and anti-displacement policies to build thriving neighborhoods.
✅ Engaging Voters — Increasing voter education, outreach, and turnout to strengthen our local democracy and ensure District 40’s priorities are represented.
And above all, I’m running because I love Baltimore, our city, and I will never stop working to improve the place we all call home.
I invite you to join this journey. Whether by volunteering, spreading the word, or making a contribution, your support will help us keep building a stronger, safer, and more connected Baltimore.
Sincerely,
Derrick Whiting
