Under the aegis of the Local Leadership Network, a coalition of progressive organizations and the Democratic Party are mounting an effort to push back the advances the far-right has made in the state and elect candidates who are working for a stronger democracy and an equitable society.
What is at stake in New Hampshire?
On a federal level, the re-election of Senator Maggie Hassan, a must-win to keep control of the U.S. Senate, and the re-election of Rep. Chris Pappas in District 1. Republicans only need to flip five seats to take back the U.S. House majority, and they're betting on a win in New Hampshire.
On the state level, Republicans gained control of the Legislature, Executive Office, and the Executive Council in 2020. The House was lost by 1,316 votes. The legislature, which is dominated by the far-right, is leading to policies that are out of step with NH voters: abortion ban, school vouchers, curriculum restrictions on teaching history, and requiring “teacher loyalty” oaths, defunding of family planning services, no action on climate change, and anti-vaccine legislation.
The grass-roots support for down-ballot candidates for the Legislature and Executive Council will contribute to winning on the federal level, but the key is to counter disinformation and engage voters early.
The coalition’s strategy is four-fold: education, research/data collection
messaging, and mobilization. Your donation will help in creating a unified, well-crafted message and in developing resources that will mobilize support for candidates, up and down the ballot, who are running against the far-right.
