Nicholas Krukowski

Nicholas Krukowski for Leesburg Town Council!

My name is Nicholas Krukowski and I am running for Leesburg Town Council. As the County seat and a vital socio-economic hub of Northern Virginia I ask for your support in electing me to the Leesburg Town Council.

About Nicholas

Commitment to Service:

My father, a US Air Force veteran and firefighter, instilled in me the power of service not through words, but through action. Witnessing his dedication firsthand, I knew that I wanted to follow in his footsteps. At 15, I began volunteering as a firefighter in my rural community. This commitment to service only grew stronger when I enlisted in the Air Force at 17. Over 21 years, I answered the call on three international deployments and over a dozen stateside activations, always driven by a deep commitment to my community and nation. This commitment was recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, when I was commended with the VFW Firefighter of the Year award.

Now, as a professional Fire Captain in Loudoun County, and as the Vice President of IAFF Local 3756, I continue to serve my community with pride. As a husband and father of two children who attend Leesburg Elementary, I'm deeply invested in our community's well-being.

Living and Breathing Leesburg:

Since 2008, Leesburg has been more than just a place to live – it's been home. I've experienced its unique charm firsthand, residing in all four quadrants, including the vibrant downtown. I've shared its growth, challenges, and triumphs, feeling a deep connection to its residents.

After having our second child, finding a house within our budget in Leesburg was a challenge, but it was something my family and I wanted to prioritize. A move to a rural area could've been financially simpler, but our hearts were set. We cherish the spirit of First Fridays, the vibrant Flower Show, the deliciousness of Solo Pizza and "Gas Station Thai," and the joy of exploring the bike trails and charming downtown streets. Leesburg is where we belong, and I will be honored to serve as your voice on Town Council.

Downtown & Businesses

As a longtime downtown resident, I've witnessed Leesburg's remarkable transformation. Our charming historic streets have blossomed into a vibrant hub for food, drinks, family fun, and unique shops. My vision is to build upon this momentum, nurturing a thriving environment for small businesses and fostering a strong community spirit.

I'm a passionate advocate for First Fridays and other downtown events that celebrate our unique character. I believe in streamlining processes for residents and businesses. Simplifying permitting and construction procedures will accelerate development, allowing new businesses to open their doors faster and contribute to the economic and social vibrancy of Leesburg.

Traffic

Traffic congestion, whether downtown or on major roads, is a shared pain point for many Leesburg residents. I understand this frustration and recognize the Town's ongoing efforts to address it. My goal is to build upon those efforts by advocating for balanced solutions that prioritize both vehicle flow and pedestrian safety. We need smart, cost-effective infrastructure upgrades that improve traffic flow without compromising livability or pedestrian comfort. This requires collaboration with residents, businesses, and transportation authorities to develop a comprehensive strategy that works for everyone. I'm committed to leading the way towards a Leesburg with less congestion and a more vibrant, walkable downtown.

I am dedicated to making Leesburg a vibrant, safe, and sustainable community for all. Within the first month of 2024, I've already met with four key department directors – Police, Community Development, Town Attorney, and Town Manager – to gain a deeper understanding of Leesburg's day-to-day government in action. This proactive approach equips me to tackle both challenges and opportunities head-on, working collaboratively with our dedicated officials to ensure the needs of our community are met.

I plan on bringing that same unwavering commitment to the Town Council. Together, we have the power to shape a brighter future for Leesburg, and I'm excited to work alongside you to make it a reality.
