As many of you know, I have been volunteering for the past year for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a grassroots group fighting for common-sense gun laws. This is a natural progression of my career in fighting against domestic violence. Background checks have prevented nearly 300,000 gun sales to domestic abusers and we are continuing to fight for background checks on all gun sales.
This year, in honor of our Wear Orange campaign, we'll be raising awareness about how big of a problem gun violence is in the United States, AND raising money to help solve that problem. The best part? A percentage of any money I raise for Moms Demand Action nationally will be kicked back to our New York state chapter. That means that we can pay for more local tabling events, film screening, member trainings - the sorts of things that allow us to grow our base of people who are willing to stand up and fight for common-sense solutions to what has become a public health crisis.
Wear Orange Day is June 2nd, just two days before my 50th birthday. So, for the 90-plus people a day (8 of them children) who die, and the 200 more people who are injured each day by gun violence, I ask you to give me the best birthday gift possible by making a contribution to this essential cause. Thank you!
