Indivisible Tompkins proudly participated in the second nationwide "No Kings" protest on Saturday, October 18th.
We gathered again in Washington Park in Ithaca, at 1 pm, to listen to speakers (including Assemblywoman Anna Kelles) and musicians (including Maddie Walsh and friends, Travis Knapp, and the Resisters chorus), and to admire puppets and theatrical presenters (including the Wild Women of Justice). At 2 pm, we did *not* march over to Meadow Street and spread out along the sidewalk from Court Street to the skate park -- because our request for insurance was denied. Instead, we held a "march" around Washington Park, posed for photographs, and transitioned to a music and dance party in the park and on the surrounding streets. Musicians included Mike Ciccone, Annie Burns, DJ Ramsey and others!
October 18 was a memorable day! We focused on the positive: our love for the country, our love for each other, the joy of working together for a purpose, and the concrete actions we can take to stop tyranny, especially actions we can take at the state level here in New York. Inflatable animal costumes (a la Portland) were present and appreciated! We helped show the world we are not the violent and dangerous leftists that the administration hopes we will be.
Approximately 5000 people attended our first "No Kings" Day on June 14th, and roughly the same number attended the October 18th event, despite rainy weather. We took notes and gathered feedback in June, and in October we had a professional sound system and a high stage, so that everyone was able to hear and see. We had more portapotties, more information tables and tents, rows of chairs near the stage for those who needed to sit, and a beautiful teeshirt from artist Alice Muhlback, printed by Silk Oak.
Naturally, our costs were higher this time! But, between ActBlue and cash and check donations on site, we raised the money we needed to cover costs! Thank you!
We still have tee-shirts for sale if you are interested. Until a separate ActBlue page is set up for that, you can pay for them here. $20-$30 sliding scale -- and be sure to fill out the order form if you are not taking the shirt with you in real time. The order form is at www.tinyurl.com/courageT.
Note: ActBlue may tell you that your donation is going to Tompkins County Progressives -- that is legit. They are partnering with us and helped us make this ActBlue page.
Note two: Donations can be made by check, also, if you would like to avoid online and credit card fees. Make checks out to Indivisible Tompkins and mail them to P.O. Box 86, Brooktondale, NY 14817.
