Nathan Sitaraman is running to represent the South Hill and Belle Sherman neighborhoods, and needs your support in the final month before the primary! Support Nathan by requesting a yard sign or sponsoring someone else's with a donation of $10.
Having grown up in the college town of Clemson, South Carolina, Nathan was initially surprised to see that the extreme wealth of Cornell did not translate to better conditions for the people of Ithaca or for workers at Cornell. Over time, he began to understand that the high cost of living in Ithaca, together with the capitalist nature of Cornell and wealthy investors, is responsible for the extreme inequality that leaves thousands of people living paycheck to paycheck even as the wealthy add billions to their portfolios.
As an organizer for Cornell Graduate Students United, Nathan found that when people stand together in the face of inequality they gain the power to bargain with the wealthy instead of having to beg. As treasurer for the Tompkins County Workers’ Center and as a member of the Ithaca Tenants Union, Nathan believes that workers and tenants are empowered when they know their rights and know that they’re not alone. As a professional scientist and strategic consultant, Nathan is committed to crafting a budget that focuses on sustainability and meeting the needs of regular people who live and work in Ithaca, not bending to special interest groups that demand more money for police and wealthy developers.
Donations go to the Solidarity Slate, a collaboration between three grassroots organizations and five candidates for Common Council.
